What We Do

Our Mission

The Junior League of Flint seeks to transform the lives of women and children by promoting volunteerism, and educating, empowering and connecting women through effective community action.  Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Membership Profile

JLF reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism. Membership in the Junior League of Flint is open to any women over the age of 21. No woman shall be excluded from membership because of race, religion, national origin, or disability.

Our Vision

The Junior League of Flint: diverse, educated and empowered women as catalysts for sustainable, positive community change.

AJLI Affiliation

In 1927 the Wednesday Club of Flint applied for membership in the Association of Junior Leagues of America. The Junior League of Flint, Inc., was officially accepted by the national organization in March of 1928. One of the requirements for membership was the successful operation of a project beneficial to the community.

The charter members decided there was a need in Flint for a home for dependent girls aged 12 to 17. Over $1,000 was raised, and the Junior League House was established on Church Street on January 3, 1928. Mrs. Loretta Norris was the matron and Blanche Dubruill the housekeeper. The League supported the house until 1932. In that year cases were taken over by the State of Michigan's Children's Aid.

Today,  the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI) organization consists of leagues in 292 communities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain.

More than 160,000 Junior League members reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, interests and professional pursuits  work together to identify unmet needs, forge effective coalitions and work for change. The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. has been providing support, guidance and leadership development opportunities to member Leagues for more than 89 years.
